Understanding Children's Behavior Through a Nervous System Lens
This workshop gives parents and caregivers a hands-on introduction to understanding kids’ behavior through the lens of the nervous system. You’ll learn to spot signs of dysregulation, get a clearer sense of what might be driving challenging behaviors, and pick up practical tips for responding with more connection, confidence, and purpose. The aim is to help caregivers feel more prepared to support children while keeping healthy boundaries and looking after their own well-being.

The Nervous System
Before we can understand challenging behavior, we have to understand what may be happening underneath it. In this lesson, we’ll explore the nervous system, the window of tolerance, and why a child’s behavior can change when their nervous system becomes overwhelmed.

Recognizing Dysregulation
Dysregulation doesn’t always look like a tantrum. We’ll explore the different ways overwhelm can show up in children—including behaviors that may be easy to misinterpret and child development factors —and learn to recognize the cues that tell us a child may be struggling to cope.

Responding Instead of Reacting
When a child is having a hard time, our first instinct may be to stop the behavior. In this lesson, we’ll practice looking beneath the behavior and shifting from “How do I make this stop?” to “What is my child communicating right now?”

Connection, Co-Regulation, and Boundaries
Connection doesn't mean giving in, and boundaries don't have to come at the expense of connection. We’ll explore how empathy, co-regulation, gentle connection, and clear boundaries can work together to help children feel safe while still learning what is expected of them.

The Caregivers Nervous System
Children aren't the only ones with nervous systems. Our own stress, exhaustion, and emotional responses can shape how we respond to our children. This lesson focuses on recognizing your own signs of overwhelm and finding realistic ways to care for yourself without adding another impossible task to your list.

Putting it all Together
Understanding your child through a nervous system lens doesn't mean you'll never feel frustrated or overwhelmed again. In this final lesson, we'll bring the pieces together and focus on how small shifts in awareness, connection, and response can create meaningful change over time.

What You'll Learn
Build ConfidenceThis course is a reminder that you're not getting it all wrong. You'll learn what to realistically expect from young children, including big feelings, tantrums, and behavior that is part of normal development. And when you don't respond the way you hoped? You'll learn why repair matters—and why you don't have to be a perfect parent to be a safe, connected one.
Learn New ApproachesExplore practical ways to respond to big feelings and challenging moments with connection, co-regulation, empathy, and boundaries—while learning how small shifts in your response can change the way you move through those moments together.
See Behavior Differently Through thoughtful examples and guided exploration, you'll learn how to recognize what may be happening beneath your child's behavior and use a nervous system lens to better understand what they may need in those moments.
